Call for Special Track on "Foundations"

The 13th European Conference on Digital Libraries, under the general theme "Digital Societies", plans to host a special track on the foundations of the design, development, implementation and use of digital library systems, services and special applications. These submissions are more likely to be theoretical and conceptual in nature, although each should be founded on the rich history of digital library research; these are not simply position papers.

The papers in this special track should be original of special high quality, addressing issues that pertain specifically to digital libraries in areas such as (but not limited to):

• data storage and indexing
• digital library integration
• technologies for delivering/accessing digital libraries, e.g., mobile devices
• user-digital library interaction/interactivity and/or interfaces to digital libraries
• visualization and other forms of data and information representation, presentation and manipulation
• Digital Library 2.0
• content preservation, authenticity, rights management
• multimedia, geographical, statistical data and other special content formats
• multi-lingual content annotation and other forms of user-created data
• specialized types of digital libraries such as education, science, public, etc. for particular uses/communities
• the information need to use cycle with respect to digital libraries
• economic, legal, political landscape for digital libraries

Of special interest are papers that discuss foundations of developing cross-disciplinary digital library systems, applications and services, and evaluation of service quality.

The ECDL 2009 program will be made of general sessions and of special track sessions (clearly recognized in the program). Special track sessions will intend to be plenary (with no parallel events running on the same time). Papers selected for these sessions also will be automatically considered for "ECDL2009 Best Paper".
